“Bad Habits” – A Look into Ed Sheeran’s Latest Single and Music Video

After spending the last two years out of the spotlight following his record-breaking tour and welcoming his first daughter, Ed Sheeran is finally back with his new song “Bad Habits.” Earlier this weekend, the 30 year old singer dropped his new single accompanying a music video directed by David Meyers.

Seen as a vampire character in the clip, even trading his usual ginger hair for a lighter blonde hairdo and his normal teeth for fangs, the clip shows a new side to the singer, one we haven’t seen before. The video is very different from what he usually puts out, experimenting with more electronic and dance sounds. The synths are buzzing with energy while the bass line holds down the rhythm for all to enjoy!

Ever since the video was out on YouTube, fans have been commenting on the song expressing their thrill that he’s finally back. Some even put out their own theories of “Bad Habits” and the message behind it. For instance, one of the fans commented “Really like the music video, the way I interpret it is we all have bad habits which connotes the chaos and night and you feel like you own the world, but when it turns morning it’s up to you if either you will let it define who you are which turns you into dust, or like what Ed did which he own up and embrace it as a part of himself and still stay true as a guy with a guitar which he loves.”

“Bad Habits”

Like any devoted Ed Sheeran fan, we believe that the lyrics behind his latest hit are a bit deeper than just some vampires roaming around at night and having fun.  “My bad habits lead to late nights, endin’ alone/ Conversations with a stranger I barely know/ Swearin’ this will be the last/ but it probably won’t/ I got nothin’ left to lose, or use, or do” Ed says while he and his supernatural friends are eating fast food with lots of ketchup, candies as well as wandering around in a chaotic area where almost everyone is having a fight!

But that’s not the only Ed we see in the video. After all these night adventures, the sun rises and we watch Ed turn to his normal self with the usual ginger hairdo. When it comes to the pandemic, we all had a hard time getting through. But for some people like Ed Sheeran, they found ways in which they could still find joy during this difficult period of their lives. In an interview he says “I was eating like a takeaway every single day, and now I don’t need a take away every single day and it’s been good.” he further added “I’ve been really healthy, like kind of stopped all the bad habits stuff in my life. You know, started exercising every day.”

So that’s obviously what the whole music video is about; the bad habits that we all have. But that’s what Ed is trying to say; you cannot let these bad habits define who you are, you have to find a way to overcome them just like he did!

Apart from the lyrics and the message behind the track, the Song itself is very enjoyable. It’s only been a few days since it came out, and it’s already trending with more than 15 Million views! Fans have been saying “Every time he releases a new song I think “it can’t get any better than this one”.. and he proves me wrong each time” and “Something’s telling me this songs gonna hit the billboards real hard….”

The Anticipated Album

You know that Ed Sheeran is preparing for a huge comeback, right? He teased the forthcoming new album on social media earlier this year as he celebrated his 30th birthday. “I’ll be back online with the 4th installment in the series later this year, until then xx,” Sheeran concluded his post at the time.”

It’s no secret that Ed Sheeran has been working on a new album, but what is it called? While we don’t know for sure, it’s expected to be called “Minus (-).”

In an  interview  for Apple Music, Ed confirmed that he’s had a “five album plan” for at least decade. All the titles of his albums are featured on Ipswich Town’s kits which he sponsored!

“Bad Habits” is a catchy tune that’s surely to be stuck in your head for days. If you’re looking for a new song to add to the playlist, this one might just do the trick!.  It  has an upbeat tempo that makes for some great dance moves! While waiting for the album to come out, you can check out the new music video on YouTube, or head over to Spotify so you can play it on repeat all day long.
