Loki Episode 2: Say Hello to Lady Loki

The second episode of Loki titled “The Variant” introducing Lady Loki hit Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar on Wednesday picking up with the god of mischief after his introduction to the awesome power of the Time Variance Authority. The beloved villain show takes place after Loki made his escape in Avengers: Endgame. I know it’s tempting to read ahead, but you might want to watch the episode before reading this article. You don’t want anything spoiled for you!

Loki aka Tom Hiddleston discovers that another version of him is wreaking havoc across the Sacred Timeline by killing TVA agents and gathering the reset charges they use to maintain our time. Agent Mobius (Owen Wilson) recruits Loki, reasoning he can give them insight into their plan thanks to his previous knowledge about deceitful plans.
Lady Loki

Close to the very end of Loki episode 2, it becomes clear that the other Loki variant who was hunted by Tom Hiddleston’s and Owen Wilson’s characters is Lady Loki. This may or not be her name in this series because they don’t actually give us one but based on what we know she can only be “Lady Loki”. They might also change it though so there could still be a chance for you to find out if you watch the next episode.
Lady Loki vanishes into a time portal, possibly finding a different apocalypse to hide in. The male counterpart, our Loki follows after her, much to the chagrin of Mobius and other TVA agents who are left with nothing but their worry about future doomsday events that will surely come for them soon again. The portal remained open just long enough for Loki’s body to jump through before it closed up behind him- suggesting Lady Loki wants more than just a chat now. The prospect of them having a full scene together has all fans begging.

But are we really surprised to see a lady Loki? Not really! In the comics, the Asgardians were reborn on earth after Ragnarok destroyed their home. Back then Loki took on a female form due to his frost giant heritage. She claimed to have reformed but was really up to no good. I guess Loki will always be Loki, right? Also, It’s no wonder that Loki’s gender is marked as fluid in his TVA file. He was born with the ability of shifting shapes and changing his appearance, so it makes sense that his female counterpart could do this too!
Lady Loki is kind of presented as a badass, but the Time-Keepers are in charge of every being’s fate in existence and have been for centuries. Until now? Why else would she be fighting back? Listen to Bonnie Tyler’s 1984 classic Holding Out For A Hero as Lady Loki takes down two TVA agents, because it seems like a major clue!
This isn’t the first time this song’s used in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the song also featured in the Square Enix Guardians of the Galaxy game‘s E3 reveal on Sunday. Doesn’t look like a coincidence, does it?
Ragnarok

Lady Loki’s appearance wasn’t the only thing that surprised Loki in this juicy episode. In the file on his Sacred Timeline self, Loki learns of Asgard’s destruction in Thor: Ragnarok. As we all saw in the movie, a total of 9,719 Asgardians were killed but the files don’t note that a bunch of them escaped to Earth even though half those survivors were slain by Thanos and his goons in Avengers: Infinity War.
Even though it prompts Loki’s realization that his counterpart is “hiding in apocalypses,” he seems genuinely saddened to see that his home was destroyed. Between discovering that, and the deaths of both his adoptive parents, it seems like he’s developing into a character who will eventually become what his Sacred Timeline self became. Or he’ll disregard that and go on his own way, you never know what’s inside Loki’s mischievous head!
No matter what, this probably made him more determined to overthrow the tyranny of Time-Keepers and change his own destiny.
Back to Lady Loki

Back to Lady Loki, who made an amazing and exciting outro to the episode. “This isn’t about you,” Lady Loki says to the god of mischief, before opening a time door and waving goodbye. A stunned Loki is clearly rethinking everything– as Mobius & Co., having spotted them through CCTV cameras, track him down with shouts of “don’t go.” The episode cuts to black just as he steps into her doorway.
The second episode of the new Marvel series “Loki” has come and gone, and we’re left with one thought in our minds. Who is Lady Loki and does she have a name? What makes her so different from other nemesis – a villainess who’s been around for centuries? We’ll have to wait until Episode 3 comes out this week to find out! Stay tuned for another article when it does.
