Rick and Morty Are Back!

The wait is finally over and the cool Rick and Morty are back with new crazy and exciting adventures. First aired on December 2, 2013 and rated 9.2 on IMDb, Rick and Morty is an American animated science fiction sitcom following the misadventures and exploits of Rick, a genius scientist yet an alcoholic grandpa and Morty his 14 year old not so clever grandson. They get into trouble together while exploring the universe and you get emotionally involved while watching the sitcom. Rick and Morty fifth season’s official trailer and release date was officially out two days ago and all of the fans are pretty excited for June 20 so they can get to watch more funny misadventures of the famous protagonists.

How Many Episodes Should We Expect This Season?

People started wondering how many episodes the season will be right after the release date was announced on Rick and Morty’s official Twitter account. We can assume that season 5 will be 10 episodes long since season 4 was of the same number. The executive producer and writer, Dan Harmon has already stated in his interview with Entertainment Weekly that they are committed to a timeline after the huge gap between season 3 and 4. It took almost 2 years for season 4 to get released and since then, Adult Swim ordered that they have a “finale-ified”( same number of episodes for all the upcoming seasons). Season 3 and 4 were both 10 episodes and season 5 is also expected to be the same, however, Harmon hinted in the same interview that the future seasons might be longer than 10 episodes saying “Not to get anyone’s hopes up, but it is structured into our deal that if we are going strong and fast, there are options to deliver more episodes at a time.” Since there isn’t a huge gap between season 4 and 5 as season 3 and 4, they are probably on the right track and we might get more episodes next season.

What Does Rick And Morty Season 5 Have For Us?

As expected, the trailer is only out to hype people for the show’s return, but it doesn’t tell us much about the plot or what is going to happen in the new season. One thing that we can be sure of, however, is that Beth, Rick’s daughter character is most likely a clone. We’ve known that in the end of season 4 and the season 5’s trailer got us all confused, yet somehow believing this is not “our Beth.” Harmon didn’t want to spoil anything and he only said “She’s Schrodinger’s Beth right now. The fact she may or may not be a clone is actually the important thing. It’s the profound revelation about Rick’s commitment to non-commitment and how abusive that can be as a parent.” Furthermore, the adventures are definitely on going. We’ve enjoyed the exploits of crazy alcoholic Rick for 4 seasons and from what appears from the trailer, it is not stopping and we will get to enjoy new misfortunes even more. In addition to getting confused over whether she is our beth or a cloned one, it looks like we will also get confused on whether an episode will starr Kanye West this season or not. It was confirmed back then in 2019 that Kanye West was offered a chance to have a whole episode dedicated just for him. Since then, no schedules were synced between Kanye and the creators, however, Roiland, the co-creator expressed that they would love to work with Kanye as they adore him. I guess that is something that we will figure out very soon since season 5 is just 20 days away.

Easter Eggs In The Trailer:

As previously mentioned, the official trailer didn’t give the plot away. However, if we are to mention the easter eggs in it, they are quite a lot. Fans were able to identify several references and easter eggs from the 2 minute trailer. There is a scene where Rick, Morty, Beth, Summer and Jerry combine to create a Voltron-style vehicle. They seem to tease a parody of the classic animated series, Voltron. Another Easter egg that was identified from the trailer was a reference to the Cenobytes from The Hellraiser Franchise. There was a scene where Beth and Rick were dressed in something that appears to be a BDSM gear. People identified this reference based on the needles sticking out of Beth’s face. Moreover, a huge easter egg was identified from the trailer. This easter egg is most likely a glimpse on an alternative reality based on Rick and Morty in which they are called Doc and Mharti. Many gems are certainly hidden in the new season, but we have to watch first so we can figure them all out.

Should We Expect Another Season?

It’s official, there are other seasons to come out after season 5. Harmon reassured Rick and Morty’s fans that season 6 and 7 are in the making and the scripting is going very well. He further said “We are very late writing season 6,” however, Harmond and Roiland stressed on the fact that the shows can be 10 seasons and maybe more. They explained that “We have characters that don’t really age, it’s very Simpsons-esque. There’s so much we can do to keep riding this train.” That is indeed an exciting news for the fans, but they sure expect a lot more in the upcoming seasons. Based on the previous seasons, it seems like the co-creators won’t disappoint the loyal fans and will keep providing quality seasons and episodes so people won’t ever get bored.

We will be watching the new season soon and if you liked this article, stay tuned for another one right after the season comes out so we can analyze it for you.
